How does the KFN publish its results?
The aim of the KFN is to acquire knowledge which is relevant to criminological practice and policy; it also recognizes the importance of informing the general public of its research results; and last but not least, the academic staff members need publications to qualify for a university career. KFN effects this transfer of knowledge in six different ways:
By publishing books in a series initially produced by Enke Verlag, Stuttgart (six volumes), and from 1996 onwards by Nomos Verlag, Baden-Baden (16 volumes).
By producing its own reports in a series entitled "KFN Research Reports". A total of 80 reports were published in this series between 1990 and 1997.
By publishing articles in specialist journals and books; from 1990 to 1999 a total of 403 articles were published in 25 national and 13 international journals and in 74 books.
Since 1999, the "KFN Research Reports" have been published in the Internet. The full text of a great deal can be downloaded as PDF files.
By giving talks or presenting papers at training courses for practitioners, at conferences for various academic discplines, and at round-table discussions on criminological, social and youth policies, such as those organized by ministries, political bodies or foundations. From 1990 to 1999, 917 talks were given, of which 329 were in Lower Saxony, 455 in the rest of Germany, and 133 abroad.
By giving radio, television and press interviews and responding to journalist`s enquiries about the KFN. On average these amount to 200-300 radio interviews, 80 to 100 television interviews, and 400 and 500 press interviews per year.
